Assisted Listening Systems

One in six people in the UK live with some form of hearing loss. Providing effective assisted listening is not just good practice — in many cases it is a legal requirement under the Equality Act 2010. Fluid AV designs and installs assisted listening systems across Northern Ireland and Scotland, helping organisations create inclusive, accessible environments for everyone.

There is no single technology that suits every application. The right solution depends on your venue size, audience type, and how much flexibility you need. We work with all the leading assisted listening technologies and will recommend the best fit for your environment.

Induction Loop Systems
Hearing loops — also known as audio frequency induction loops (AFILS) — transmit audio directly to hearing aids and cochlear implants fitted with a T-coil, eliminating background noise and distance degradation. They are the most widely used assisted listening technology in the UK and are well suited to reception desks, conference rooms, courtrooms, places of worship, theatres, and transport hubs. Fluid AV installs portable loop systems, fixed counter loops, and large-area phased array loops for challenging spaces. All installations are tested and certified to IEC 60118-4 standard.

Infrared Assisted Listening Systems
Infrared (IR) systems transmit audio using invisible light rather than radio waves. The signal cannot pass through walls, making IR ideal for courtrooms, confidential meeting spaces, and multi-room venues where signal bleed between areas must be avoided. Users wear a small receiver with a neckloop or earpiece. Fluid AV supplies and integrates IR systems from leading manufacturers and can combine them with existing PA and AV infrastructure.

Auracast Bluetooth Broadcast Audio
Auracast is a new Bluetooth broadcast audio standard that allows a single transmitter to reach an unlimited number of receivers simultaneously — including compatible hearing aids, cochlear implants, and smartphones. As Bluetooth LE Audio becomes standard in modern hearing aids, Auracast is set to become the dominant assisted listening technology. It is particularly effective for airports, shopping centres, hospitality venues, museums, and houses of worship where personal device use is preferred.

Auri by Listen Technologies
Auri is a personal listening brand from Listen Technologies, built on Auracast Bluetooth broadcast audio. Visitors connect via the Auri app on their smartphone and listen through their own earphones — no dedicated receiver hardware required. Listen Technologies is one of the world's leading manufacturers of assistive listening equipment, and Auri represents their next-generation approach to venue accessibility.

Choosing the right system
Many venues benefit from a combination of technologies — for example, an induction loop at a service counter alongside an Auracast system for a main auditorium. Fluid AV will assess your venue, discuss your audience requirements, and design a solution that meets current accessibility legislation while being straightforward for staff to operate. We provide full installation, commissioning, staff training, and ongoing maintenance support. Contact Fluid AV to discuss your requirements.
